The United Nations (UN) will hold an open debate on the implementation of Security Council Resolution 13245 on Women and Peace and Security that was adopted in 2000. The goal of the resolution is to achieve gender equality and to build sustainable peace and security that considers the needs of women. The resolution strives to protect women and girls from human rights abuses including gender-based violence. The debate will examine the progress that is being made in creating equal opportunities for women to help maintain and promote peace and security.
